We are excited to announce that we have been named as finalists for the Lincolnshire Media Business Awards 2019.


We will be heading to the Awards Ceremony held at the Lincolnshire Showground Epic Centre on 17th October. The awards will see Lincolnshire businesses go head to head for awards across a range of categories voted by a panel of independent judges. The categories range from Apprentice of the Year, Business Person of the Year to Heart of the Community and Innovation Award. With 16 categories, it will be an evening with plenty of amazing winners.


DBS have been nominated for TWO categories this year: Employer of the Year and Digital Campaign of the Year.


The awards are now in their 16th year and it is a great event that shows the efforts of businesses across Lincolnshire. All of the winners are then put forward to with the prestigious Business of the Year Overall winner.

DBS recently attended the East Lindsey Business Expo 2018 where DBS Director David Clarke was invited to host a specialist workshop, briefing delegates on the ins and outs of creating a comprehensive internet marketing plan. The event took place at the Stanhope Hall in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, and aimed to showcase the best businesses in and around the East Lindsey area and celebrate local innovation. The event was free to attend, and guests were able to take advantage of a number of special show promotions, programmed workshops and other incentives. David’s talk explained that all Lincolnshire small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) should have a clear, written online marketing plan, and he guided local SMEs on how to write their own online marketing plans, along with detailed advice on how to monitor the results. Attendees also had plenty of time to question David following his presentation. In the feedback forms following the event, David’s presentation was rated highly and described by many as the highlight of the event. In addition to his talk to local businesses, David also delivered a workshop to 21 local secondary school students. The students were all in their second year of studying the AQA Business Marketing Technical Level in Business at the Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Alford. Their coursework is solely based on digital marketing, so the workshop was extremely beneficial for them. We were told afterwards that David made a direct, positive impact on their coursework, which we were delighted to learn!

October 1st marks the annual celebration of everything Lincolnshire. While we here at DBS call the county our home, we know that some of our clients have never been before. So here are a few reasons why you should put a visit to Lincolnshire on your to do list. 1 – The historic city of LincolnLincoln has 2,000 years of history under its belt and arguably some of the finest historic buildings in the country. Take a walk up the infamous Steep Hill to Lincoln’s cathedral quarter and you’ll be richly rewarded. Among it’s cobbled streets you’ll find tea rooms, pubs and book shops nestled in between the glorious Lincoln Cathedral, which is the second largest Gothic cathedral in England, and Lincoln Castle, which was built by the Normans and is a court and former Victorian prison. 2 – Food, Glorious Food! Lincolnshire is well known for its agricultural output and this abundance of food means that Lincolnshire has some of the tastiest and freshest dishes available. Local delicacies include Poachers cheese, Lincoln red beef, haslet, stuffed chine, plum loaf and of course…Lincolnshire sausages. 3 – RAF heritage Lincolnshire has a proud history of aviation and is sometimes nicknamed ‘Bomber County’ for its active role in WWII. Today Lincolnshire has various operational bases in places like Waddington, and also Scampton where the Red Arrows themselves are based. Airplane and history enthusiasts can also make the most of the newly opened International Bomber Command, a £10 million centre that provides a comprehensive history of service of Bomber Command. 4 – Beaches and countrysideLincolnshire is also famous for its flat landscapes and stunning scenery. Nature lovers can delight in the Wolds to the North of Lincolnshire and the fenlands to the south of the county. There are several nature reserves, sanctuaries and public parks to enjoy as well as beautiful beaches on the East Coast with popular resorts like Skegness and Mablethorpe and quieter areas like Anderby Creek. 5 – NavenbyDBS has been based in our current offices in Navenby since 2008. Situated just nine miles south of Lincoln, Navenby was once voted by The Sunday Times as one of the top rural places to live in the UK. It’s a charming village with stone period buildings and its own small economy of butchers, bakers, newsagents, restaurants and more. Navenby is also home to ‘Mrs Smith’s Cottage’ a 19th century grade II listed building where the owner Mrs Hilda Smith lived until 1995 to the age of 102. While it is currently closed for renovations the wonderful cottage serves as a time capsule into a bygone area. We hope this blog inspired you to make a visit to Lincolnshire sometime soon. Many Happy Returns to DBS’s Online Marketing Manager, James Hopkins, who turned 34 on Sunday.The team celebrated with a rather delicious apple and blackcurrant birthday cake and the usual singing of Happy Birthday on Friday morning.James spent the weekend with his wife Kasia and four-year-old son Alex, relaxing, enjoying the hot weather and taking advantage of some of the fun things to do locally in Lincolnshire. Their itinerary included a trip to the seaside, a walk across the Lincolnshire Wolds to have a picnic in the ruins of Old Bolingbroke Castle, going out for an Italian meal in Horncastle, breakfast by the sea, exploring the new North Sea Observatory at Chapel St Leonards, and visiting nearby National Trust property Gunby Hall. James joined DBS in 2011, and focuses on driving traffic and enquiries to our clients’ websites through social media and marketing. DBS are pleased to welcome Billy Burrows to the team. Billy is our new Web Project Assistant and will be helping to prepare and oversee the creation of clean and functional websites for our clients. Billy studied at the nearby Sir William Robertson Academy in Welbourn, Lincolnshire, before moving to Newark in 2009 and gaining key experience as a Web Developer at companies based in both Newark and Tuxford, Nottinghamshire. Billy now lives in Navenby, Lincolnshire close by to our main offices. Outside of work Billy is a “huge Derby County fan” and a committed season ticket holder. When he’s not cheering on “The Rams” at Pride Park, Billy enjoys PC gaming and keeping up to date with the latest web development techniques.

DBS Director David Clarke is to host a seminar at this year’s Lincolnshire Business Expo on Wednesday 17th January 2018.Entitled “Social Media for Beginners”, David’s talk will be held from 11am until 11.30am and will provide practical tips for beginners on the do’s and don’ts of social media, and what will work for your organisation in the fast-paced world of online marketing.David is giving the talk because, as he says, “getting to grips with social media can be scary. It’s not something we’ve all been brought up with and it doesn’t necessarily come as second nature.”  You can register to attend David’s talk here. DBS has been playing a role in influencing Bank of England policy concerning UK businesses.Our director, David Clarke, attended a Bank of England / Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce business panel meeting in Gainsborough this week.The meeting was chaired by Alastair Cunningham - a regional representative of the Bank of England (pictured with David). Similar business panels have previously been run by the Bank, who find them “a valuable way of taking the pulses of the businesses that are represented on them.”Only around 10-12 local businesses are invited to sit on the panels, which meet twice yearly to discuss the state of trade. The meetings are of benefit to both the Bank of England and the businesses attending. The Bank benefits enormously from the opportunity to "road test" themes they've picked up from their bilateral meetings with business contacts before reporting back to the Monetary Policy Committee in London, whereas businesses value the opportunity to put their own experience into perspective by hearing of others' experiences.

We’re proud to announce that DBS was named as the winner in the Community Business category at the recent NK Community Champion Awards 2017This category was to recognise “a company or sole-trader whose business initiatives and charitable, neighbourly contributions have made a difference to their local communities.” It was one of eight different award categories, and we were one of a record 28 finalists who were chosen from a list of over 80 nominations. DBS was nominated for the award by Navenby Parish Councillor Keith Lamyman. The awards were organised by North Kesteven District Council, who run them each year to recognise the efforts of unsung heroes who work quietly, tirelessly and voluntarily across a number of areas in the district. North Kesteven is one of seven districts in Lincolnshire. DBS is proud of its corporate social responsibility programme (CSR), contributing locally and internationally to worthy causes. Our director David Clarke founded the Navenby and Cliff Villages Business Network to bring together businesses and foster community links plus boost interest in the area. David helped the Business Network to organise the hugely popular “Christmas in Navenby” in 2016.DBS also made a very significant contribution to our community being equipped with three defibrillator units, a life-saving and essential safety measure for rural locations. All residents in the community now live within 500 metres of a defibrillator, which could save someone’s life.DBS provide website support to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. We also provide a website free of charge to local charity Star Trust. DBS have worked closely with local schools Priory Academy LSST in Lincoln and the Sir William Robertson Academy in Welbourn for more than a decade to provide work experience opportunities.DBS is also active in two mentoring schemes. For the last six years we have worked hard to initiate and continue a mentoring scheme for University of Lincoln students in their final year. This mentoring service involves CV advice, conducting practice interviews and giving careers guidance to students who may be unprepared for the demands of the world of work.David also mentors for a Lincolnshire scheme called Mission Mentor, giving children in care in Lincolnshire a chance to gain valuable guidance on education and work as well as motivation. In 2016 David embarked on a trip that was to take DBS’s CSR to another level. During his trip to hike the Everest Base Camp Trail in Nepal, he learned of a Sherpa who had just died in an avalanche. He had left behind a wife and four children, with the eldest daughter just about to start nursing college. David and the team felt they must do something to help, and so made the decision to fully fund her education.The award was presented to DBS by Keith Philips from the sponsor for the award category, Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers Duncan and Toplis. DBS Directors David Clarke and Julie Priestley, and DBS Online Marketing Manager James Hopkins accepted the award on behalf of the company. The ceremony was held on 19th October 2017 at The Venue in Navenby and was hosted by North Kesteven District Council Leader Cllr Richard Wright and Chairman Cllr Sally Tarry, and compered by BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Rod Whiting. Short films were shown about each of the finalists before the winners were announced. The evening included live music, a complimentary buffet supper and a raffle and bar in support of the Council Chairman’s nominated charity, LIVES.The event was attended by over 150 guests, including the finalists, their guests and nominators.
